GALLERY SCULPTURE PLINTH

Craig Malyon, Untitled, 2026, bronze, granite, plastic
The sculpture is untitled, as it is still a work in progress. Conceived as part of a funerary urn, it is a visual metalepsis, layering and displacing religious iconography to look for connection in the face of mortality. Jedi, Christian and Hindu imagery are brought into conversation not to privilege one tradition over another, but to consider how different belief systems can offer ways of understanding ourselves and others. The work seeks to value religious belief without endorsing dogma, recognising faith as a lived experience that respects difference. Religion as being and metaphor becomes the technology of the “Self”, externalising the internal. We see it through symbol, ritual and story, and it invites us to consider what others believe. In this time when tolerance isn’t the valued capital, we need to find more ways to make space for each other.
LIBRARY SCULPTURE PLINTH

THE PLINTH PROJECT
Bridget Kennedy, And This Is Where We Land
Library Plinth, opposite 165 Longueville Rd, Lane Cove
Friday 18 September – Sunday 18 October 2026
Artist and local councillor Bridget Kennedy builds a precarious miniature cityscape from repurposed jewellery saw blades, tools made to cut, shape and create. The city sits on an oxidised silver platter engraved with the names of Australian plants that have become endangered or extinct since colonisation. The names are set in concentric circles like the growth rings of a tree, forming a quiet memorial.
Made in part in response to the recent closure of the Australian Design Centre, the work reflects on environmental loss, urban development and the collective choices that shape our landscapes. It is less a lament than a question: if this is where we've landed, what do we choose to make from here?
For sale in exchange for the time it took to make: 2,635 minutes of labour.
