Lane Cove Art Award 2025

Lane Cove Council and Lane Cove Art Society invites artists to exhibit in the Annual Lane Cove Art Award sponsored by Lane Cove Council. The exhibition is held at Gallery Lane Cove.

The Lane Cove Art Award started in 1965. It is an acquisitive award with several other prizes on offer.

Prizes
  • Lane Cove Art Prize: (Winner acquisitive) $15,000 sponsor Lane Cove Council

  • Hyecorp Property Prize: $2,000 sponsor Hyecorp Property Group

  • Centrehouse Inc. Prize for Commended Work: $1,000 sponsored by Centrehouse Inc.

The Hyecorp Property Prize is only open to Lane Cove Art Society members and/or Lane Cove residents.

Important Dates
  • Entries close: Sunday 3 August (11:59pm)

  • Judges’ selection: Monday 4 August – Friday 15 August

  • Finalists notification: Friday 22 August

  • Delivery of works: Saturday 13 September 10am-4pm

  • Opening and awards presentation: Friday 19 September 6pm-8pm

  • Exhibition open: Wednesday 17 September – Saturday 4 October

  • Collection of works: Monday 6 October – Tuesday 7 October 9:30am-4:30pm

Terms & Conditions
Entrant eligibility
  • Entrants must be 18 years and over.

  • All finalists are eligible for Lane Cove Art Prize and Centrehouse Prize, however, the Hyecorp Prize is open to Lane Cove Art Society members and/or Lane Cove residents only.

How to enter
  • Entry forms must be submitted online via the Lane Cove Art Society website by the closing date.

  • Entry fee is $45 per artwork (Lane Cove Art Society Members $30 per artwork).

  • Entries will not be accepted until payment has been made.

  • Late entries will not be accepted.

  • A maximum of two artworks can be submitted by an entrant. Each unit of a pair is regarded as a separate entry.

  • Artists are required to upload a high-quality image of each artwork in JPEG or PNG format each not exceeding 10Mb.

  • All details supplied by the artist are final.

Artwork eligibility
  • Artworks must be original work, completed within the last year. Work previously submitted to the Lane Cove Art Award is not eligible.

  • Eligible two-dimensional artwork can be any of the following mediums: painting, drawing and mixed media and sculpture. The maximum size for 2-dimensional works including the frame is 155cm x 155cm. Works larger than this will not be accepted.

  • Eligible three-dimensional works and wall hung bas-reliefs are limited to 100cm in any direction, and under 40kg. Plinth may need to be provided by the artist depending on the work. Total height to be no more than 1.8m, including the plinth. Free standing sculptures must have the artist’s name, title, medium, size and price on a label attached to the work.

  • Wall hung artworks must have the artist’s name, title, medium, size and price on the back; also, two D-rings 10cm from the top of the frame for hanging. All screw eyes must be covered.

  • Artworks chosen for the exhibition should be professionally presented and ready to hang. Works cannot be wet, damaged, or exceed the stated dimensions and weights.

  • The following are not eligible: film, video, sound, performance and installation artwork and photo media; reproductions or copies; paintings on glass, photo-reproductions, computer-or Artificial Intelligence (AI) assisted works and Giclee prints. Any artwork deemed unsuitable may be rejected at the discretion of the Lane Cove Art Society committee. No refunds will be given.

  • All artworks by finalists must be available for sale.

Announcement of finalists and winners
  • All entries will be viewed online by the Judges. The Judges’ decisions are final; no refunds will be given for works not selected. The selected finalists work will be hung in the exhibition at Gallery Lane Cove and it is from this hung work that the judges will select the prize winners. The Judge(s) may also select works of merit.

  • Finalists will be published on the Lane Cove Art Society website.

  • Prize winners will be announced on Opening Night.

Delivery of artworks by finalists
  • Finalists are responsible for organising the delivery and collection of their artworks at their cost.

  • Delivery of artworks is to be to the Gallery Lane Cove, Upper Level, 164 Longueville Rd, Lane Cove NSW 2066. Dates and times are stated under ‘Important dates’ (above). Late deliveries are not accepted.

  • Finalists are responsible for insurance of their artworks. All reasonable care will be taken but no responsibility is accepted for loss or damage while in custody, or for works not collected by the Deadline stated above.

Sale of artworks
  • The Main Prize-winning work will be acquired by Lane Cove Council for the prize money only.

  • From sold artworks Lane Cove Art Society will deduct 30% commission. Artists whose works have been sold will be contacted by Lane Cove Art Society, and payment will be processed within 21 days from the conclusion of the exhibition, once a valid invoice has been provided by the artist and full payment has been received from the buyer.

  • Artists are responsible for their GST obligations (if applicable), hobbyists excepted.

  • Payment from an art sale will be made directly to the artist and not to any third-party representative.

  • Represented artists are responsible to arrange details and payment of commissions to their agents, separate from the 30% commission on sales collected by Lane Cove Art Society.

Collection of artworks
  • No collection before closing of the exhibition.

  • Receipt must be produced for collection.

  • All artworks must be collected by the time stated under ‘Important dates’ (above).

  • Works not collected by the deadline above will be charged a Late Pickup Fee of $40 per working day. Uncollected works will be disposed of at the discretion of the Lane Cove Art Society committee after 30 days.

  • The LCAS cannot return paintings by mail.

Marketing & publicity

Artists must agree that Lane Cove Council, Lane Cove Art Society and Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios may use images of your artwork to promote this and future exhibitions in signage, websites, social media, catalogues and promotional material, and that no reproduction fees are payable.
