Opening Event: Wed 15 October, 6pm-8pm

Co-curated by Kathie Najar and Rhonda Pryor, Altered Landscapes is a group exhibition that offers a unique look into the artistic process and the power of collaborative critique. Featuring nine artists and participants of the 2023 Bushwick South Salon Series, a professional peer review program, the exhibition presents a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the creative process, sharing not only final works, but also the sketches, missteps and moments of experimentation that shaped them.

Facilitated by Dr. Amber Boardman and Lisa Woolfe, the salon series built upon the impactful Sunday Salons that for over 30 years the influential Louise Bourgeois held every Sunday. Altered Landscapes explores how critique can empower intuition through shared conversations and candid reflections, unlocking new creative directions and reinforcing artistic autonomy.

As Dionisia Salas notes, the sessions helped her to “develop a firmer footing, trust in [her] work and a deeper understanding that intuition is a honed skill.” Altered Landscapes makes visible the invisible labour of dialogue, support and risk-taking that fuels creative growth. Accompanied by public programs and artist talks, this exhibition invites audiences into a community-led creative journey.
