Lost Suburbs

Jack Buckley

3 - 20 December

Opening Event: 5 December 6pm - 8pm

Considering the nature of suburban sprawl and its impact on local environments, Lost Suburbs explores the diverse array of species disappearing from the Sydney region. As the city struggles with its own housing crisis, an increasing amount of flora and fauna are becoming rarities in areas they once flourished. Through hand embroidery and pen illustration echoing scientific records, tangled power lines and facades intermingle with banksias and orchids. Within our ever changing urban scapes, these works contemplate how we best approach the preservation and memory of these species.

About the Artist

Jack Buckley is an emerging multi-disciplinary artist based on Cammeraygal land, in Sydney, Australia. Jack's work explores the complex world of the Australian environment, with particular focus on the nature of native flora within a human context. Applying a scientific inspired illustrative process to delicate hand-embroidered thread subjects, Jack creates meticulously detailed works which consider overlooked and unknown worlds. Jack has presented work through solo, group exhibitions and prizes in commercial, community and regional galleries and botanic gardens across Australia.
