Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is thrilled to have artist Giacomo Budini performing a version of his recent work, "Act of Contrition", as part of GLC Live! 

Giacomo Budini is an emerging artist living and working in Sydney. His work primarily explores ideas of transcendence, redemption, salvation and sexuality. His recent body of work “Act of Contrition” is a critical and lyrical exploration of his Catholic upbringing, juxtaposing ideas of religion and sexuality. Through an immersive and richly coloured red room installation he uses various methods of painting, woodworking, sewing and performance. Through these methods he explores remembered and imagined experiences of witnessing the architecture, liturgy and sacraments of the Catholic church. Utilising imagery such as the colour red, the bible, confessional booths and papal robes he evokes subtle implications of sexuality disguised underneath these religiously charged images. The installation theatrically presents a diverse yet cohesive collection of art objects, garments and sculptures that allow both himself and the audience to question ideas of God, redemption, salvation and sexuality.
