Making Art with Art history

Mondays 3:30-5pm 

Ages 5 -12

$208 for 9 week term

Children will explore painting, drawing and sculptures by drawing inspiration from a famous artist each week. They will be introduced to art history in a fun, hands-on way. From Frida Khalo to Yayoi Kusama, children will learn a range of mixed media techniques for self-expression and understand their historical significance.

Georgia O’Keeffee: Flower paintings

Children will paint large flowers inspired by the style of Georgia O’Keeffe 

Week 2 3/8

Frida Khalo: Self Portraiture 

Children will learn to paint their own portraits

Lygia Clark: Abstract Sculptures

Children will make abstract sculptures with cardboard and paint, encouraging them to think of ways the sculpture can be put back on the body 

Week 4  17/8

Sonia Delaunay: Colourful Abstraction

Focusing on geometric shapes, children will be guided to create paintings from circles

Week 5 24/8

Louise Bourgeois: Human and Animals

Inspired by Bourgeois’ spider, children will draw their imaginary creatures that can be part-human, part-animal

Week 6 31/8

Yayoi Kusama: Pop Art

Create abstract art using lots of polka dots! 

Week 6 7/9

Tracey Emin: Text art about love

Children will learn how to incorporate texts in their paintings or drawings and create art in response to the theme of love

Week 7 14/9

Kara Walker: Sillouhettes

Create paper collages by only using black and white sillouhettes

Week 8 21/9

Kaylene Whiskey: Comics

Create your own colourful comics, explore story telling through pictures

Week 9 28/9

Free art

Children are encouraged to make any art they want in any medium they are interested in
