DRAW, PAINT, COLLAGE & BUILD
Teacher: Jann Dark
9 Week Term
Term 1 2020 starts 12 February
In this term’s classes children will continue to have the opportunity to learn and explore how different materials and colours work together, learn basic drawing and painting skills, follow instructions, develop and use their imagination, work in a group, develop social and language skills, develop confidence and independence and be encouraged to express themselves. Skills: Most classes will include 15 to 20 mins of objective drawing ie drawing from objects or photos. This will involve a discussion about the basic shapes with the children. The lessons are structured to facilitate the development of children’s shape recognition and eye hand coordination. There will be some gentle correction done by myself for older children, but younger children will be encouraged rather than corrected, as children at this age are still in the very early stages of developing the ability to replicate shapes accurately and it is important not to intimidate them or take away from their own enthusiasm to explore. Classes will also involve making 3 dimensional objects. Making 3 dimensional objects can enhance the development of digital (hand, finger) dexterity across a wide variety of activities and is vital for children’s cognitive development under the age of 10 years. Digital dexterity will also greatly enhance children’s drawing ability and ability to replicate shapes accurately. Developing the imagination is also vital for cognitive development in children. To facilitate this, children will be given a conundrum or problem to solve. For example, how can we make paper stand up? Or, how did I make this object? Children will also be given the opportunity to explore the creative potential of different materials. What could we make out of this? This also becomes a way for children to use their imagination, develop ideas, solve a problem and carry an idea to completion.
