Contemporary Still Life Painting

Tutor: Melinda Marshman

Day & Time: Mondays  7 - 9:30pm

9 Week Term

Cost: $330

This painting course is suitable for the absolute beginner to more experienced painters, as individual attention is catered towards students’ needs. This is a fun and relaxed class where students will work from simple to complex still lifes. We start with the fundamentals of beginning a painting;

toning the ground, finding an interesting composition and the why and how of underpainting.  We will be developing skills in recognizing tonal value and gaining confidence in colour mixing and paint application. Instruction in studio technique such as brush care and palette layout will be discussed. We will gain inspiration from modern and contemporary painters, to gain greater confidence in painting approaches and techniques.  By the end of the course students could expect to have three – five completed paintings and lots of practical new knowledge to apply to their ongoing painting practices.  More experienced painters may work on their own projects in consultation with the tutor.
