JOB OPPORTUNITY: GALLERY ASSISTANT
Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is currently looking for a hands-on and enthusiastic arts worker to join their small team as Gallery Assistant.
About the Role:
The Gallery Assistant role at Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is an entry to mid-level position focused on assisting in the planning and execution of exhibitions and events. You will work closely with the Gallery Manager + Curator, providing vital support to ensure the smooth delivery of our artistic activities.

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is a for-purpose arts organisation located in the heart of Lane Cove, dedicated to providing exhibition, education, and development services to the community. The organisation showcases contemporary artistic practices, promotes innovative art forms, and serves as a platform for cultural exchange in Sydney. Managed by Centrehouse Inc. a not-for-profit with DGR and ROCO status, its mission is to nurture contemporary artistic practice, promote innovative forms of art making and presentation and be a platform for contemporary cultural exchange in Sydney. In 2024 Centrehouse Inc will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
Summary of key Responsibilities
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with Art Installation:

Support the safe setup and takedown of artworks for exhibitions, ensuring proper handling and adherence to guidelines.

Assist in installing various artworks, including paintings, sculptures, installations, video, and media works.

Help with packing artworks when necessary.
Event Support:
-
Aid in the planning and execution of events, including exhibition openings, artist talks, workshops, and special programs.

Assist with logistical aspects of events, such as scheduling, venue setup, and equipment arrangements.
Supplies and Equipment:

Maintain supplies and equipment necessary for exhibitions and events.

Ensure that essential materials and tools are available for successful installations and events.
Communication Support:

Act as a point of contact and liaison between the gallery and stakeholders, relaying information and inquiries.

Assist in maintaining communication records and schedules.
Learning and Contribution:

Utilise your interest in the visual arts to actively engage with artists and contribute ideas to upcoming programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Essential:

A strong interest in the arts or relevant coursework.

Good technical skills for handling hand tools and equipment.

An introductory understanding of various art forms and styles.

Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

Effective written and verbal communication for interactions with stakeholders.

Flexibility to work occasional Saturday shifts and after-hours during events.
Desirable:

Passion for the arts and an interest in the local arts community.
